It's not the Park's fault!! This Historic park has all the ingredients to become proud again. For over 20 years, there have been agreements on the need to renovate, and also a debate on whether the old Historic fire station should be torn down to build a new Community Center. To remove this beautiful Historic building would be a disrespect to the community's history. In November of 2023 (see attached), $6.5 million in sales tax money was set aside to revitalize the park. But to this date, nothing has been accomplished. Named for a war hero (Lt. Col. William Dyess) with an incredible history of service, Dyess Park also became the home of James Brown's annual turkey giveaway, which has continued since 1990. Dyess Park is more than just a park, it is the ♥ of the community

This park is definitely not closed, despite the fact that Google maps shows that it is. I stopped by for a short respite, and found a very worn down Park, with the exception of the children's play area. The swimming pool has long been abandoned. Pretty disappointing...

The park is spectacular...that Zipline is super fun. Evan as an adult. However, there are a few homeless people that live there every time I go... Pretty harmless overall but still weird.

Great part for older kids not a lot for younger kids. All the slides are really high so the littles who aren't sure about climbing only have one they can slide on. Swings of course but that's about it.

I pulled into the parking lot at 2pm on a weekday, glanced at the shelter, and left. This isn't a safe place for kids.
