Augusta Canal Discovery Center

We thoroughly enjoyed the 2nd annual Canal Discovery day on April 15th 2023. The Canal Discovery Center has a detailed walkable museum that is interactive for all ages. They also offer boat rides with a guide that tells the history of the canal, its workers, the history of the buildings along the canal and the story of the people who hand dug the canal. Id highly recommend a visit to this wonderful local museum for the whole family.

Museum, theater, and boat tour for a very reasonable price. Fascinating history. Loved it. Great for children and adults.

The Discovery Center was really neat and informative. We took the morning canal boat tour, was fun.

Nice boat tour on a cool (for August in Augusta) day. No crowds and nice low key but informative museum. Not quite as cool as the Dime museum but that's a bit of a different animal. 😄

On Saturday 5/21/22, we arrived at the Canal Discovery Center at around 9:45am for their 10am canal boat tour. We were a little dismayed that the tour boat might be at capacity. We hung around to wait and see about a large group that was running a little late. The Discovery Center staff was great and they worked it out that we were able to go on the tour also. The boat guide and captain were great. We really enjoyed the hour long canal tour. We had no idea that the canal was so vital to Augusta's history. It was very informative. We also enjoyed the museum where we learned so much more about the area history. If you're in the area and looking for something to do, I highly recommend this.
